While we were busy carefully curating our sale shopping lists and outfits to ring the New Year in as much as our Holiday menus, we could not help but realize that once the big party’s over, comes the opportunity to mentally prepare to start the new year with a big stylish bang (as a stylish lady does). So with great enthusiasm, we rounded up the 8 fashion goals we will be conquering in 2017, one styling tip at a time!

1. Try at Least one Trend

The season ahead is packed with fun trends and nods to favorite past decades; from flamboyant fuchsia and fishnets straight from the 1980’s to fashion’s love affair with shades of pink: the sequel, there is a myriad of bold colors to win us over and inspire us to incorporate them into our wardrobe with a touch of individuality.

2. Find a Good Tailor

You could have just found your dream fashion buy in the sale, only a size too big and still make it look a million dollars. The secret weapon of every stylish woman and street style star, is a great tailor and in 2017, proportions are as important as ever. With Balenciaga‘s tailoring and exaggerated silhouettes now influencing fashion in a major way, we are increasingly looking towards ways to upgrade our wardrobe staples such as black skinny jeans or frilly silk blouses through upgrading timeless dinner jackets or boxy coats.

3. Implement Ease and Effectiveness into Dressing

If there’s one thing you learn in a year (if not life) is that everyone is inevitably bound to make impulsive fashion purchases and spur-of-the-moment styling choices. So that to counteract that, it is best to apply the rule of less is more into 2017 by drawing a comprehensive list of what works for you and what are the trickier pieces to work with. Raw hem slim jeans and playful tees have been many a street style star’s 2016 go-to look, and this has just set one example of how an effortless silhouette transcends seasonality and occasion.

4. Shop Consciously

The good news is there is only so much you have to buy into to look stylish for  the New Year while also tapping into some of the new season’s most significant trends! We previously talked about the 5 things to remember when out shopping and when doing that for new pieces to add to your 2017 wardrobe, ask yourself the following two questions. Does the color and fit make you feel your best? Is this fabric durable and something you will love for years to come? If you’ve mentally gone check and check, then it is worth considering that delightful (yet also conscious) temptation.

5. Mix and Match

Thanks to the Gucci phenomenon, eclecticism in dressing is all that as we step into 2017. Rejoice the power of mixing prints and embracing saturated colors, clashing in a single silhouette or cap the excitement at a statement jacket or blouse, keeping the rest of the look easy but accessorized! Lift your favorite go-to pieces with glorious little touches that you can truly have fun with in a maximum-effect-minimum-commitment kind of sartorial experiment.

6. Start With a Fresh Closet

A well-organized closet takes you one (if not 5) steps to perfect dressing. Start the new year in style with a well-planned space by taking everything out and re-arranging accordingly so as so identify what you no longer need and what you are missing while also finding a system that helps you be more efficient when choosing your pieces. 7. Take a Risk

If the past month has seen you in your most comfortable yoga pants and oversized sweaters, then January is the time to take on the challenge of trying something new! Whether a pattern that takes you outside your comfort zone or a style that takes you out of the dressing rut, bet on a silhouette you usually avoid under pretext ‘it is not for me’. Doing this will revive your creativity and allow you to see yourself outside the box. Challenge Accepted!

8. Find Your Personal Style

Easier said than done but as we enter 2017 with our best foot forward, why not give yourself the gift of a personal styling consultant who can provide truly professional, objective advice towards attaining your style goals or dressing for a new chapter in your life? Alternatively, set yourself up for success by redefining ‘your uniform’ and stick to it. Once you note the shapes and colors that work for you, spend time finding and invest in high-quality staples that are really you! Let Timeless style be your new mantra!
