Here at Shopaholica, we relentlessly try to answer the succinct question that is ‘What to wear and buy now’ and as of late, our imaginations have been captured by the impressive sleeve game that some of our favorite street style icons and industry insiders have been experimenting with.
Whimsical twists and fabric gathering come to add multidimensional appeal to the top, enhancing the element of drama and defying proportions in entire silhouettes. Jonathan Simkhai’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection inspired an ode to romanticism, which lingered until Oscar-nominee Zoe Saldana manifested the femininity and allure of the silhouette, straight off the catwalks, what we all wish to be clad in. The star appeared at Cadillac Oscar Week Celebration wearing an off-the-shoulder, ruffle lace up dress, a frock that gave a polished silhouette the right amount of avant-garde edge it needed.
This directional look has taken many forms in those brilliantly-captured street style moments as well as on the red carpet. Tailored as well as cut-out styles made it into the Vanity Fair and L’Oreal Paris Toast to Young Hollywood Red Carpet, where Holland Roden made an appearance in an A-line, midi dress with architectural ribbons tied all the way along the arms, making a serious case for an enviably chic cold-shoulder. Roden was a primary source of inspiration for this peek-a-boo twist on a perfectly-tailored cocktail dress and showed us that sleek red carpet style can indeed feed off the youthfulness of the statement sleeve trend. In fact, if there is one thing we will be taking noting is that bell, ruffled or deconstructed sleeves elevate classics and lift casual ensembles with gusto. Hello Spring-Time go-to’s!
